INTERREG PL–SK 2021–2027 PROJECT

RoweLOVE — trails of the Polish–Slovak borderland

A cycling-tourism platform linking the Municipality of Sanok and Obec Sačurov. Trail maps, bike rentals, roadside attractions and the BikeQuest reward system — in one place, in three languages.

Project overview

RoweLOVE is a joint initiative of the Municipality of Sanok and the Slovak Obec Sačurov, delivered under the Interreg Poland–Slovakia 2021–2027 programme. We combine the infrastructure of two rental points on the Polish side (Mrzygłód, Czerteż) and one on the Slovak side (Sačurov) with a digital layer — a trail map, GPX files, descriptions of attractions and a mobile app with a QR-code reward system. The aim is to make cross-border cycling easier and to showcase the heritage of the Eastern Carpathians and Upper Zemplín.

Project goals

  • Developing cycling tourism along the Polish–Slovak borderland
  • Integrating the offer of both municipalities in one bilingual service
  • Promoting the region's cultural heritage — Orthodox church trails, wooden sacred architecture, landscapes
  • Making trip planning easier through GPX files and interactive maps
  • Encouraging physical activity among families, seniors and people with disabilities

Why cycling tourism matters here

The Polish–Slovak borderland holds enormous tourist potential that has so far been explored mostly on foot or by car. Cycling reaches places cars cannot, while covering distances out of range for hikers. The network of trails and rental points built under RoweLOVE opens this region to a new audience — city dwellers looking for active leisure in an authentic, non-commercial setting.

Tasks

  • Building and launching a shared online platform (web + mobile app)
  • Equipping rental points in Mrzygłód, Czerteż and Sačurov
  • Mapping and describing more than a dozen cycling routes on both sides of the border
  • Rolling out an online bike-reservation system
  • Launching the BikeQuest reward system with QR codes at tourist attractions
