Description
The Greek Catholic church in Hłomcza is a wooden religious building erected in 1859. Originally dedicated to the Synaxis of the Blessed Virgin Mary, today it is dedicated to the Prophet Elijah. Its interior contains an iconostasis dating from the period when the church was built.
The history of the building reflects the complicated post-war fate of many religious monuments in the region. Between 1946 and 1960 the church was used by the Roman Catholic Church and was later taken over by the Orthodox Church.
In 1991, Greek Catholic services returned to the church. As a result, the church in Hłomcza remains not only an architectural monument but also a living place of worship whose history brings together several Christian traditions present in this region.
